Dear
Sir, Is it not time for the BBC, ITV and the media in general to act responsibly on the matter of Britain's relationship with the EU, whether in it or out of it. Mr. Vaz made the statement on the Today programme this week: "We should have a balanced debate about our membership of the EU... we should be putting the facts before the British people and that is not happening at the moment." How right he is, he and the Government are telling lie after lie to the British peoples. When Ted Heath lied on the floor of the House of Commons and lied to the British people during the referendum in the 1970s he committed treason, he further compounded that treason by subsequently confessing that he not only lied but lied intentionally. Is Keith Vaz telling the British peoples lies wittingly or due to incompetence and lack of understanding as surely both are a treason. Mr. Vaz further said on the programme: "That's all we ask, a balanced, sensible debate." In the light of Mr. Vaz's comments I would ask you to arrange a high profile 30 minute, or more, 'slot' where I as a small retailer [a book dealer with a shop in Chepstow] debate Britain's relationship with the EU as an unfunded, concerned member of the public/electorate with Keith Vaz. I challenge Mr. Vaz to give ONE single sound reason which benefits Britain and her peoples for being a member of the EUropean Union, which I can not in 90 seconds prove conclusively is a lie, a misrepresentation, propaganda, a misunderstanding or greatly outweighed by the disadvantages and costs. To add value to the programme perhaps you would care to challenge Mr. Vaz, on my behalf, and if he fails to make his point conclusively he might care to hand over the difference in salary he has earned, between his salary as an MP appointed by the electorate and that which he has been 'anointed to as a Minister to sell the EU to the reticent peoples of Britain. This sum to be donated to a mutually acceptable Charity. Since it was effectively Mr. Vaz who issued this challenge on the Today programme on Radio 4, I would contend that if he fails to honour it he is not only acting dishonourably but he is denying open and free democracy, a main plank of his government's policy. I would further contend that a failure to debate the issue with me on public live media would be tantamount to an admission by Mr. Vaz that there are no good reasons which he is confident of upholding. Should Mr. Vaz refuse to debate with me, I therefore believe, it is not unreasonable for me to publicly ask for his resignation as Minister for EUrope. I look forward to an early and interesting debate with Mr. Vaz.
